Fun project, you could do this one at home!

The 6th graders and I got rained out of a day working on our boat installation sculpture a while back.  We decided to try out a faux batik method.  Using elmers glue, draw a design on fabric.  Let it dry.  Using acrylic paint, paint over the entire design with bright colors.  Let it dry.  Soak the piece in water and then slosh it around a bit to remove all the glue (and whatever paint was on the glue).  Here are some successful results:
