Have you ever tried to draw what you see in front of you? It's not an easy thing to do. My students start this process of observation drawings at the Kindergarten level and revisit the skill multiple times each year. I try to remind them, "draw what you see, not what you think you see; look carefully and constantly at the object you are drawing; your eyes should move back and forth quickly between your paper and the object".
