Be on the look out for the following exciting events in the Sigsbee Art Department:
Gyotaku with Kim Wallen: she's a fabulous local fish printing artist coming to visit my 6th grade printmaking class. We'll be fish printing on shirts, fabric, paper...so fun!
Sand sculpture class with The Sandbox sculptor, Marrianne van den Boek: the 6th grade honor roll students are taking a field trip with me to learn how to make a sand sculpture.
Petri Island sculpture exhibition with Jim Toia: 300 of our own Sigsbee students will be creating a small part of this large exhibition. Each student will design and fill a petri dish. The petri dishes will be added to the instillation at Studios of Key West in July. Jim will be visiting our school mid-March.
Purpose of the SCS Art Happenings Blog
The purpose of this blog is to provide an informative resource for Sigsbee Charter School (SCS) students and their families. The information included in this blog will pertain directly to the unit of study I am teaching in art class, enrichment class, and exploratory class. You will see pictures of artwork added to the blog as frequently as they are completed at school.

Kindergarten Observation Drawings
Have you ever tried to draw what you see in front of you? It's not an easy thing to do. My students start this process of observation drawings at the Kindergarten level and revisit the skill multiple times each year. I try to remind them, "draw what you see, not what you think you see; look carefully and constantly at the object you are drawing; your eyes should move back and forth quickly between your paper and the object". Here are some amazing results:

This student really noticed the details. The brush DID in fact say CHINA on the side. |

Architecture
Students have been studying the architecture of Frank Lloyd Wright and Antoni Gaudi. Here are some of their dream homes inspired by these 2 amazing architects.
Kindergarten
Wow!!
I'm so excited that some of our fabulous 4th graders have started designing on their own! Today 3 boys brought their portfolio full of great go-cart designs. They have drawings, details, and even measurements planned out. Nice job boys!
